
When combined with the car's 1.4-litre petrol engine, the Bosch system is claimed to improve fuel consumption in European tests by six per cent, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions from 145 to 137g/km. Kia claims the cee'd ISG will offer even greater economy improvements of up to 26 per cent.
The system will stop the engine when the car is in neutral with the clutch pedal released. After a delay of a second or two the engine is cut and it starts again when the clutch is depressed. The system will only operate if the engine is up to operating temperature and the battery level is sufficient to restart it.
